Current Driver Shortages:

Large goods vehicle (LGV) drivers, also known as HGV drivers, transport and deliver goods and raw materials across the UK and overseas. They move everything from foodstuffs to fuel.

There is currently a huge demand for additional LGV drivers across the country as the haulage industry looks to replace drivers who are approaching retirement or have left the UK. With the average age of lorry drivers currently sitting at 53 years old, the haulage industry is losing nearly 4,000 drivers a year to retirement.

Estimates range from 80,000 to 100,000 additional drivers are needed to cover the shortfall.

What we offer:

At TL Training, we have offered a high standard of HGV/LGV training since 2015. We offer training to candidates who are looking to obtain either a Class 2 (Category C) or Class 1 (Category C+E) licence.

We offer a number of packages to suit the needs and budget of both business and individual customers.

Class 1 (Category C+E)

from a car Licence

This is a complete package for anyone wanting to take advantage of the recent legislation changes that allow candidates to bypass the Category C (Class 2) test and go straight for your Category C+E (Class 1) test.

A Class 1 (C+E) vehicle has a trailer that detaches and is frequently referred to as an artic (articulated lorry), Class 1 or an HGV.

By gaining your HGV Class 1 (C+E) licence, you’ll be able to drive the largest vehicles in the logistics industry, weighing up to 44 tonnes and generally used for national and long-haul deliveries.

Class 1 (Category C+E)

from an existing Class 2 licence

This is package for anyone wanting to add Class 1 (C+E) to their existing Class 2 (Category C) licence.

A Class 1 (C+E) vehicle has a trailer that detaches and is frequently referred to as an artic (articulated lorry), Class 1 or an HGV.

By gaining your HGV Class 1 (C+E) licence, you’ll be able to drive the largest vehicles in the logistics industry, weighing up to 44 tonnes and generally used for national and long-haul deliveries.

Class 2 (Category C)

This is a package for anyone who currently holds a valid car licence and wishes to train as a Class 2 (Category C) driver.

This licence will allow you to drive any lorry or truck which ways between 3.5 and 32 tonnes.

Intitial Driver CPC

Module 4

This course is suitable for all lorry, bus and coach drivers who passed a vocational driving category course after September 2009 but do not currently hold a DVSA Driver Qualification Card.

Once passed you’ll be issued with Driver Qualification Card from the DVLA valid for 5 years. To keep this DQC valid beyond 5 years you’ll need to attend a 35-hour Driver CPC Periodic Training course, which can be booked as a one-day (7 hours) course say every year to spread out the cost and time off work or can be done as a five day (35 hours) block.

Periodic Driver CPC

35 Hours

Periodic DCPC is Mandatory for all lorry, bus and coach drivers who passed a vocational driving category course prior to September 2009 and wish to drive commercially.

Any drivers who passed their tests after September 2009, must firstly complete the Initial CPC (Module 4) and then have 5 years to complete the 35 hours Periodic CPC.

Yard Shunter Training

This practical course will teach drivers how to ensure the safe movement of vehicles perform and respond to recommended code of signals, and safely manoeuvre a vehicle and trailer around a site.
